The much-anticipated NVIDIA RTX 50 series has officially surfaced in April’s Steam hardware survey, marking its presence in the gaming ecosystem. However, despite being on the market for four months, these GPUs have yet to claim dominant positions among users.
Slow Uptake—Is Cost a Factor?
While NVIDIA's latest generation is now being tracked, adoption remains lukewarm. Several new RTX 50 models have appeared, including the RTX 5080 (0.38%), RTX 5070 Ti (0.28%), and RTX 5070 (0.38%), yet their penetration is still relatively minor given Steam’s enormous user base. However, even small percentages represent hundreds of thousands of users.
Meanwhile, AMD’s RX 9000 series remains absent from the survey despite initial enthusiasm around its launch. This raises questions—are supply chain issues limiting availability, or is demand weaker than anticipated?
The Market Landscape—NVIDIA Still Dominant
Despite slower adoption for the latest GPUs, NVIDIA continues to dominate the market, commanding a 74.39% share. Intel remains the leader in CPU adoption (60.35%), with AMD trailing behind but still a strong contender.
Interestingly, the RTX 5090, NVIDIA’s flagship GPU, is missing from the rankings—a likely result of its premium pricing keeping it out of reach for the majority of gamers. Additionally, AMD’s RX 9070 series, despite its successful launch, has yet to appear.
Intel Arc and AMD GPUs Struggle for Visibility
Among AMD’s lineup, only the RX 7800 XT appears in the Steam survey, holding 0.27% market share, comparable to the RTX 5070 Ti. However, several other models—RX 7900 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7600 XT, and RX 7600—are notably absent.
Similarly, Intel’s Arc GPUs struggle to gain traction despite competitive pricing, suggesting gamers are still favoring established brands over newer entrants in the discrete GPU space.
Most Popular GPUs—RTX 4060 Laptop Leads the Pack
Among Steam users, the most used GPU remains the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop, followed closely by the RTX 3060 and RTX 4060 for desktop PCs. This demonstrates that mid-range and laptop GPUs continue to dominate gaming preferences, while newer high-end models remain slower to gain ground.
While NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series has officially entered the Steam survey, widespread adoption is still lagging. High pricing and availability issues could be limiting uptake, while AMD’s latest models struggle to make an appearance. Nevertheless, NVIDIA remains the undisputed leader in GPU adoption, proving that the brand continues to be the top choice for gamers worldwide.
