DJI, the global leader in drone technology, has unveiled its latest innovation: the Zenmuse L3. This advanced aerial system is designed to broaden the use of lidar in industries such as topographic surveying, emergency response, infrastructure inspection, forestry, and cultural preservation.
Seamless Integration Across DJI’s Ecosystem
The Zenmuse L3 is fully compatible with DJI’s ecosystem. Including the D-RTK 3 Station, DJI Pilot 2, DJI Terra, DJI Modify, and DJI FlightHub 2. Offering a comprehensive end to end mapping solution. DJI states that this integration will make high-end aerial lidar more accessible to enterprise users across a wide range of applications.
According to DJI, the Zenmuse L3 represents a major leap forward in long-range, high-accuracy lidar, with the potential to reshape the global geospatial industry.
Key Features of the Zenmuse L3
1535 nm Long-Range Lidar System:
The L3’s lidar can detect objects up to 950 meters away at a pulse rate of 100 kHz, even under intense ambient light (100 klx) and low reflectivity (10%). It offers 5 mm ranging repeatability at 150 meters and microsecond-level time synchronization. With a laser beam divergence of just 0.25 mrad, it can precisely detect small objects like power lines and tree branches.Dual 100MP RGB Mapping Cameras:
Equipped with two 100MP 4/3 CMOS sensors and mechanical shutters, the system delivers high-resolution imagery with a ground sample distance (GSD) of 3 cm at 300 meters altitude. A wide 107° horizontal field of view allows each capture to cover more terrain, improving mapping efficiency.Exceptional Penetration Capabilities:
With a maximum laser pulse emission rate of 2 million points per second and support for up to 16 returns, the L3 excels in dense environments like forests and urban areas. It captures more ground points with greater completeness, enhancing terrain data accuracy for precise surface modeling.Enhanced Operational Efficiency:
When mounted on the DJI Matrice 400, the Zenmuse L3 can simultaneously collect lidar and RGB data, producing digital orthophoto maps (DOM), digital elevation models (DEM), and more. All from a single flight. Even with just a 20% lidar side overlap, it maintains high-quality outputs.
DJI’s Continued Commitment to Lidar Innovation
The Zenmuse L3 follows DJI’s growing lineup of lidar-enabled products, including last year’s DJI Air 3S. The company’s first drone with forward-facing lidar. With the L3, DJI continues to push the boundaries of aerial geospatial technology, making advanced mapping tools more powerful and accessible than ever.
